GE Women Run 2008

Happy finishers

Charlene and Meijin crossed the finishing line of their virgin 10k with respectable timings! Meijin - 1:22:58 and Charlene 1:27:20 with Stacey. I am so happy and proud of them!!! *Clap clap clap* Their months of training have paid off. To truly savour your fruits, one must labor for it...i always believe. Committing the time to train for a 10km race is not an easy affair for leisure runners. Well done my dear friends :)

We met at Starbucks 6.40am & went over to Padang for baggage deposit. Surprisingly, there was no Q at all at the deposit area. This is a vast difference from Shape Run. By the time Stacey reached & got her stuff settled, we had more than enough time to stroll to the start line. Took some pictures before the airhorns signalled the start of the race! Woohoo!

The 4 of us ran together until 2.5km which was the 1st water point. Charlene had to slow down cos of her bruised knee. Stacey & Meijin carried on. Caught the 1st ladies on the opposite lane. As usual, they are fast (hee..most of them run competitively for a living). I later checked the results and the champion is a Kenyan clocking 33min. Impressive.

Along Merdeka Bridge, I spotted Linda squatting & took a quick snap with her. After a while, I think Charlene got a little pressurised (or "fan" :P) with my presence...suggested that i move ahead to catch the other 2 Geminis. Good thing that Stacey was wearing a white cap...made it easier for me to spot her. The course was full of ladies in the red event tees...see until i cross-eye.

Stacey was alone when i caught up with her. Meijin had ran ahead. I continued with Stacey from 4km to 8.5km. Charlene re-joined us at 5ish km.
8km saw us into F1 pitstop. It was spacious to run and particularly encouraging since we are closing in towards the end point. The volunteers at this area were rather motivating...shouting to us that only a small distance remained.
After taking Charlene & Stacey's pic at 8km mark, i hurriedly ran to chase Meijin. As her green towel was wrapped around her hand and not over her shoulder (which i was looking out for), i couldn't spot her at all. It was only after crossing the finish line when i turned and saw her. Looking at the result, i overtook her at the final 100-200 m w/o realising.heheheh.

An unglam pic of exhausted Meijin
Stacey's foot was 1 sec later than Charlene

We took some pictures with our sweat-earned medals. For the girls, i reckon that was their first running medal. Charlene remarked that she has never perspired so much in her life *lol* Meijin was very excited about her accomplishment & exclaimed a great sense of satisfaction. As for Stacey, i tink she was too tired to feel anything :P
Stacey had to leave earlier cos it was Claudia's bday. The 3 of us went for a good brekkie at Swensen's. Chatted for a long time & left for home when Charlene's eyes were about to shut down.

I look forward to the next race together *wink*
